my new website template using as3. I can’t say too much about the popularity after 3 days, but already made 9 sales.

AS2 will not become outdated in a year or so, that is nonsense.

AS3 is a fully O-O language and that is where its power lies.

AS3 files do not sell well on FD as there are simply less ppl developing with it.

AS2 is far simple to pick up and far easier to modify.

AS4 is on the way so, perhaps the same will be said of AS3 files.

That said I still use AS 1 in certain circumstances.

It all depends on your needs, take a look at your customers, a lot of ppl on FD don’t even run CS3 , a prerequisite of files here is to supply an MX version.

That to me would say that FD is set to stay an AS2 dominated zone for a long time to come.

I ask why are the AS3 developers not putting up flex and AIR applications, this in my opinion is the future of AS3 .

I had been wondering, AIR apps are AS3 only?

If I am working on a full flash website I stick with AS2 , my AS3 skills are almost nonexistent, but if I have a client who just wants some kinda app like a video player, or news scroller I try to find an AS3 file to buy. I realize I need to learn AS3 , but its intimidating. I came to flash from doing video production, Flash was easy for me to understand, and AS2 is something I could pick up little by little. AS3 on the other hand seems more suited to people with a programming background, this is not me. Though as I said before, I see AS3 as something I need to learn. I wish more AS3 files were on FlashDen, then Id be driven to learn more.

AS4 isn’t on the way. I think you’re mistaken because of the soon to be released Flash CS4 (and other CS4 apps). Flash CS4 will use AS3 , it will just have a few new elements like vector, 3d, etc. You can use those elements right now by updating your Flex SDK and installing the beta of Flash 10.

Also, supplying an MX version isn’t a pre-requsite. I have files that only open in CS3 .

The reason we aren’t putting up Flex applications is because we aren’t allowed to upload MXML or AS files. Every file uploaded here needs to be compilable in the Flash IDE , in other words, you’re only allowed to upload FLA ’s.
