Hi I bought the flashden_md-imagefader_364 and no I didn’t realise I was buying the old version! unfortunately there is no upgrade I have to buy it all over again if I want the upgrade :(

anyway I changed the xml file no problems but then in the instructions it says to open the image fade .fla file well…... :(

I click it to open it and flash MX starts but then I just get a message saying “unexpected file format” so the file at my guess is corrupted where do I go to get a refund or help for this?

I am not asking anyone to do the work for me just help me open the file so that I can change the size of the stage lol cheers :)

“unexpected file format” means that it is a version of Flash that you cannot open. For example, when you have Flash 8, and downloaded a Flash 9 file, youll get that error. The file isnt corrupted, you just cant open it with your current Flash

You should check minimum flash version for that file, you should see that on the file page. Flash files, are “almost” always backward compatible.

So what your sugesting is that when they say MD_imageFader_MX.fla it doesn’t mean for flash mx? :(

the other file just says MD_imageFader.fla so I assumed that was for an older version of flash either way neither file opens

on the page it says Please note, this file requires Flash Player 7 and up I thought MX was above player 7 or am I mistaken?

I’m not positive, but I’d assume you are correct about MX being flash 7. I would contact the author and notify them before making a posting. I use flash CS3 and have some ActionScript 2 files up on FlashDen, but the first time I uploaded one I posted it as being Flash 8+, because it’s ActionScript 2, but forgot to save the .fla as flash 8 (because CS3 automatically saves as flash 9 unless you specifically set it)... so after I was notified I resaved it as flash 8 and reuploaded it and it was fine.

There can be a difference between the Flash Player version that will run the compiled file (the .swf file) and the Flash development environment that will open the soucre file (the .fla file)

As Joe points out it is possible to publish a swf which will run in Flash Player V8 from source code (fla) that will only open in Flash CS3 (Flash 9)

In your case the author claims:
Opens With
MX 2004 (7+)

So if you have Flash MX 2004 the fla should open, and you should either get a version that does, or get your money back.

If you only have the original Flash MX (released in 2002, with Flash Player 6) then it will most likely never open this fla and unfortunately the mistake was yours. If that’s the case, I am not sure but it may be possible to get someone who owns Flash MX2004 to open the fla for you and save it in Flash MX (6) format. (I believe most Flash versions have the option to save the fla to a format at least one version earlier (don’t confuse this with publishing the swf for earlier versions of the Flash Player)
