Is there a program (if possible free) with which I can select some frames of a video (mpeg or flv) and save them as JPG ?

I’ve got Quicktime 7 Pro. It costs about 25.00 but it does the trick. You can edit the clips yourself and then export the clip as an image sequence. Sorry, but I don’t know of any free software that would do that.

Photoshop,or Photoshop elements can import frames from video,it is good actually as you can move through the video grabbing frames and put these on different layers to make an animated gif-good for making animated avatars and the like.

With the free player VLC you can do screenshots of you movie… whit the keys: Ctrl + Alt + S. I love it… both for win and mac.
