If your interested in creating music, you’re going to need the rite software. There’s lots of software out there, but picking the rite one to suit your needs can be quite a difficult task.

Below you will find a list of the best software available, and the reasons for buying and not buying. Remember, finding your dream application takes time and a lot of trail and error.

This post lists software for people who are first starting out

Steinberg Cubase

Reasons for One of the most popular. Excellent support. State-of-the-art features.

Reasons Against It isn’t cheap. It’s very frustrating as there’s quite a lot to learn, you really need to read tutorials, experiment, read more tutorials.

Fruity Loops

Often underrated, Fruity Loops can be quite a powerful program if used correctly. FL has a nice interface, lots of cool built in tools and there’s a massive community out there always ready to help.

Reasons for
You will be creating music within seconds. Decent price. Not to tricky to learn.

Reasons Against Not the best tool for live recording. People tend to pick on FL users.

Propellerhead Reason
This piece of kits comes with synths, samplers and more. Everything you need to create your music is there.

Reasons For
This is a really cool looking program. You wont need to buy anything else for it ever.

Reasons Against
Might be a bit tricky for news users. Not good for recording. You can’t add your own stuff to it. VST ’s etc.

Sony Acid
A loop based program. Insert your loops and away you go.

Reasons For
Good if you want to use loop packages. Very fast to create a song. Quite simple to use.

Reasons Against
If you’re creative and like to make your own beats, this isn’t the program for you.

Great info SubKutz, thanks :)

For the record here, every single loop I’ve written and uploaded to FD ( with the exception of most the longer classical pieces ) was created with FL Studio aka fruityLoops.

Pick on me if you want! :D

Cheers

Lol, I can’t. I use it quite a lot myself.

I’d like to write more articles like this. Using FlashDens forum post editor/thingy is really tricky at times though. :( All the br tags and *’s

I hope they sort it out.

I’d write tons of articles if the text editor was easy to use.

Never used Pro-Tools, but i hear it’s great! Only downer is that it demands a PCI control unit to work, right? And i hear it’s pretty steep too.
