I bought a template yesterday and some of the included files do not open, I get errors (these are XML files). The seller hasn’t answered any questions in his file for about a month and I don’t know what I am supposed to do since refunds aren’t allowed and the seller might be gone forever. I am super bummed that I spent $40 on a file that doesn’t work when I could have spent that on something else. :(

I have only waited a day but going back and reading comments to see they haven’t answered any of them for over a month doesn’t give me much hope. Am I screwed or what can I do?

PS: I re-downloaded all the files 3 times and that fixed nothing. I tried opening the files in Notebook and XML Notebook and they both produced errors.

XML files are basically text files. You can open them with notepad.

In Notepad, I get a lot of gibberish – nothing useful or understandable.

It seems like those files are binary files and not standart XML files. What is the extension of the files that you’re trying to open?

Thanks for trying to help. The extension is XML and Vista says “XML Document” in the description. It’s an XML file I just don’t know what’s wrong with it. :D

Vista doesn’t really care about the content of those files. It simply reads the extension and echoes it back. I don’t think those are valid XML files. A normal XML file is readable by human beings :)

I don’t know I am just repeating what is there. The instructions call for changes to be made in the XML file. There are no other files with that extension in the entire package. I’m sure it is somehow possible for any file type to be corrupt because this one is.

Assuming it is, do you think there’s anything that can be done on the administrative end of the site? I know the file can’t magically fix itself and the author may be gone for a long time, so what are my options?

Well, I don’t really know how the staff deal with this kind of problems but I’m sure they will help you as soon as they read this thread.

Thanks for your help, lydian.

I downloaded the file 3 times and no change unfortunately. :) I will contact support, thanks. I didn’t think that was an option.
