Let hem pay 10% first and 10% more at each stage of completion.
If he refuses, i should not take the project ;)

rahulbist,

Before starting the project, fix some milestones and request your client if they can pay partial amount on completing each milstone. As per my experience, those who doesn’t care about such requests are always adding more works without payment. And their final request before the payment would be something like “Is it possible to make it to support player 6.0” or “Is it possible to pull all the data from xml” etc and putting us jeopardy.

Be careful with the clients who never “hears” your payment suggestions/requests.

You could do like, 100 up-front, deliver project, receive 100 for completion. Then do it like that for the other 4 projects as well. So half up-front, and other half after delivery, for each project.

I do 25% – 35% up front from all of my clients. The better ones get 25%...and then 75% upon approved completion and they dont TOUCH the end product until I get paid in full.

Sounds like the guy who wanted AS3 to run on Flash Player 8… ;)

Tell him something like this ::

“Im sorry for the inconvenience, but because of security measures, I am unable to start on the work without at least a 50% down payment…”

Also, he may feel like you are screwing him over, so offer him an exchange through ESCROW … That way, he pays all his money through it, and its held secure…

Ohh and if he still doesnt agree, and wont pay, I would just drop him… Otherwise, you’ll end up doing all the work, and wont get paid at all in the end.

I have a few trusted clients for whom I will deliver a finished project before they pay me … but for ALL new clients I will not even start a project (or payable milestone) without 50% up front, and like xdozex, for new clients I require payment in full before releasing the finished product. (but I do provide a fully functional demo so they can see the work has been completed to specifications)

thanks guys for your advice.

actually now I am scared of clients. Remember, I posted one thread earlier about a guy demanding an AS3 application, playable in flash 6 to flash 9.

He just contacted paypal and demanded that I have wasted his precious time and wanted compensation of $500.

I am now suspicious of clients.
