ANIMATED WEBPAGE HIT COUNTER

HomeBrowse CategoriesFlashApplications and UtilitiesAnimated Webpage Hit Counter

An all-vector, scaleable, animated webpage hit counter. The Flash file makes use of a simple PHP script which keeps track of the unique pageloads (by using cookies) and total pageloads by writing to a text file (Note: your permissions must allow write access). The file ‘spins’ the final numbers into place from a starting value that you can specify in the XML config file.

You can also adjust:

  • the number of ‘number windows’
  • whether commas are shown or not
  • the number of ‘decimal windows’
  • the background color of the windows
  • the border colors
  • the alpha value of the window highlight
  • fade-in time
  • blur amount
  • spin speed
  • delay time
  • easing animation type
  • sound effect volume
  • whether you’re tracking total or unique pageloads

Users can click the counter to reload the current count and ‘re-spin’ the numbers to the most recent count.

Note: the pixel shifting that may be visible in the preview does not occur in the actual source files. In the preview, the graphics may shift slightly because of the color functions that are being applied each time the numbers are spun.

I like it! Even though hit counters went out of style in the 90’s :)

My feeling about hit counters is that they just show people that you don’t get very much traffic.

this is a great file, love the settings…

is there any chance you could include the sample movie from the top of this page in the download. I want to load an external variable from a php file as the target number, and was hoping to see your input field to help me do this. any help/guidance on this would be much appreciated :)

Thanks!

great work ! !!

unfortunately it does not work properly with Firefox 3.0, every time you hit a button to refresh the page, the number changes. it works fine with IE7 . Can you please provide a fixed version.

thx Tomasz

would it be possible to change the way the page loads are tracked? for example: instead of using cookies wouldn’t be better to track I.P. addresses?

Hi Tomasz,

What version/platform of Firefox are you using? It works ok on my Mac using Firefox 3.0. I’ll do some research to see why it’s not working properly for you.

Re IP addresses: you’re probably right – it would be better to precisely track IP addresses but I’m guessing you’d need a database to store and sort through them rather than a text file (I know a little PHP but not much MySQL). The ‘Flash cookie’ method was easier for me to implement.

Maybe a new version could include a file that worked in conjunction with a database (if I could figure out the MySQL stuff).

Nice file biteMedia..Can this be placed on a MySpace Page? I’m wondering because MySpace has so many limitations…

Posted about 1 month ago

spookus: I’d say probably not.

It might be possible but you’d need to be able to host the PHP files on your server + have write access permissions in order to write to the text file that stores your pageloads (unless MySpace allows you to upload and run PHP scripts – I don’t think so) + have the .SWF load the remote PHP script.

I’m not at all familiar with MySpace though…do they allow you to upload .SWF files?

Thanks biteMedia for the response. I still might purchase the file and play around with it. You can link to swf files through absolute paths on MySpaceand I want to say you can do the same for PHP scripts. I’ll purchase the file later on and let you know. If it doesn’t work I’m pretty sure I can find another site I can use it for. Thanks:-)
