AS3 SNOWFLAKES

HomeBrowse CategoriesFlashAnimationsAnimated BackgroundsAS3 SnowFlakes

The snowflakes actionscript adds to your flash project a winter taste. Made just in time for the holidays :D For those who have their projects in ActionScript3

SnowFlakes AS3 work by themself. Just drag the movieclip into your project. However there are many things you can set up. The actionscript is located inside Snowflakes MovieClip on the actions layer. All the variables are well comented there.

It is possible:
- to turn off rotation,
- to turn off flipping,
- adjust common alpha value of snowflakes and alpha variation,
- set size variation of snowflakes,
- set probability of snowflakes that will flip (in %),
- set rotation speed,
- set amount of wind,
- set number of snowflakes on screen,
...

Also, you may ad as many different snowflake graphics you wish either in vectors or as an image.

Happy Hollidays! :)

I can’t get it to work properly. The instructions are “All you need to do is to drag this MovieClip into your flash project!”

1) I create a new AS3 file

2) I set the background to a dark color so I can see the snowflakes

3) I drag the snowflakes movieclip from your file into mine

4) when I then test my movie I get the movieclip displayed saying “All you need to do is to drag this MovieClip into your flash project!” and I only get 2 0r 3 snowflakes falling veeerrrry slowly.

5) in the output panel I see the following error message,

ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable flake4 is not defined. at global/flash.utils::getDefinitionByName() at Untitled_fla::Snowflakes_1/loadObject() at Untitled_fla::Snowflakes_1/frame1()

OK. I think I figured out a work-around.

If you just drag the movieclip to your Flash project it has the problems I described above. BUT , if you copy the movieclip AND its ObjectLib folder from the library and then paste it into the library of your Flash project it seems to work.

I’d still like to hear from the author on why this works like this. Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

SimpleJim: I see your problem. The flake4 mc was not inside the SnowFlakes movie clip so it didn’t copy it from the library. You were doing everything ok. I’ll update the file now! I apolagize for the problems.

did this get updated? I re-downloaded and it looks the same.

I uploaded the corrected file immediately and it was put in queue for review. I don’t know why is it taking it so long.

If you open up the movieclip that is on stage, it contains anotherone with three snowflakes in it. Open this one and drag the flake4 movieclip from the library into this one and save the file. The drag and drop, should work then.

You may also contact me on private and I’ll send you the updated files.

Thanks for the comments everyone!
