ELEGANT PERCENTAGE PRELOADER

HomeBrowse CategoriesFlashPreloadersPercentage BasedElegant Percentage Preloader

A simple and extremely elegant percentage preloader created in Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and written in ActionScript 3.0. It’s a lightweight preloader ensuring precise and smooth preloading with a clean and eye catching design ideal for web pages or all kind of applications.

All the code that is responsible for handling the loading process is situated inside the preloader_mc MovieClip making the preloader really easy to use ( simply drag and drop it onto your stage; it’s that simple to use ).

All the code is commented and additional instructions can be found in the ReadMe.txt file that comes with the preloader once purchased.

Easy to use, easy to edit with a clean and eye catching design, written in the most performant ActionScript language yet. In short: everything that you can wish for from a percentage preloader.

Enjoy.

I’m having a bit of trouble getting this to work. When you say all you have to to do is drag “it” ti the stage what is “it” the movie clip the swf or something else?

Thanks for you help,

-I’m having the same problem, any help would be much appreciated.

My guess is that the “it” would be the movie clip but if you do that you get a load of action script errors saying siomething must be a child of something else. The other confusing thing is that in the FLA file there are three layers in the main timeline (one obviously for the movie clip, one for the background and one for action script). The is a whole ruck of action script in the action script layer so i don’t understand if you’re supposed to copy this or not? and in any case it’s not going to fit in one frame of my main timeline. Confused… I am…

Me too.

I transferred the preloader folder from the Library onto my stage in the flash thing I made. It worked but I got some weird

ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild() at headernew_fla::preloader_mc_7/fadeOutHandler()

No idea what to do with this

Sorry for my delayed reply I had some problems myself ( not Flash problems ). So, the preloader was designed to be used outside any other container, don’t try to nest it ( I mean, don’t drag it into a container, but leave it directly on the stage ). You are getting that #2025 error because for a strange reason the code isn’t finding the preloader_mc once it tries to removes it ( at the load complete ). This can be caused by quite a few reasons but my guess is that you have it nested and that’s why it’s not working.

By the way, yes, by “it” I meant: the preloader_mc. Just drag and drop the preloader_mc onto the stage and not into another movie clip. And don’t forget that you need the other movies clips that come with it too, otherwise it won’t work.

If you guys can’t make it work then try dropping me an e-mail with the file that you are working on so I can take a look at it and fix it. But I’m quite sure that if you copy all the movie clips from the original file and simply drag and drop the preloader_mc onto the stage ( and NOT into any other movie clip or graphic or whatsoever ) then it will work.

I forgot to leave the e-mail… You guys can send the files to the following e-mail address: birobarna@wisebisoft.com

Just please don’t spam, I’ll try to answer the e-mails as soon as can but please send an e-mail ONLY if you really tried every approach and still couldn’t make it work.

Thanks for buying and your interest. ;)

Well, I got it to work by following your instructions. However, i have tried it in a number of my flash files and more often than not the screen is completely blank for some time then goes 0%... 100% in a split second. May be i’m doing something else wrong but this wasn’t what i expected of a preloader. It’s simple enough to reproduce, just create a blank flash actionscript 3.0 file (FLA) and a big image to frame 2 on the stage in a keyframe. put the preloader movie clip onto the stage in a keyframe on frame 1… see what happens. Try this on various simulate downloads (obviously the slower the speed the more obvious it is).

Incidentally does the preloader take any account of external FLV files? (are they included in the percentage?)

Thanks for your help.

@ mark: that is because you built your movie wrong… You have too much code exported to Frame 1 and/or you have tons of graphics on the first frame. It’s a common mistake from beginners and I’m sorry to say but there’s nothing I can do about that… You have to rethink the whole thing and organize stuff better. I’ve tested the preloader before uploading it, so I’m confident it’s not the preloader but you are doing something wrong.

Regarding external FLV files: No… The preloader takes in count only the size of the .swf everything you load externally, you’ll need to handle separately.

PS: You said it shows 0% and then suddenly 100%, are you testing the movie inside flash ? Because if you are testing it locally without having the Simulate Download property enabled then you’ll always see it do that… you must upload it to the internet to test if it loads correctly… or enabled Simulate Downloading inside Flash and press CTRL ENTER 2 times.

Good luck.

There is nothing on frame 1 other that the preloader movie clip. Yes i did test within flash but using simulate download (i dropped it down to 14.4 modem so i could see what was going on better).

as it happens i do need to take account of FLV ’s so i’ll have to try a different solution anyway.

Thanks for you help.
