very nice gallery RimV
FullScreen Gallery with live draggable feature. Press and hold mouse on image to make thumbnail field appear then drag to navigate around.
There are 2 modes, you can drag freely in all directions or one time one direction (vertical or horizontal). In preview I created some random matrix of thumbnail board. In one direction mode, release and hold again to set up a new direction (vertical or horizontal). Enjoy!
Compatible: Flash 8 + Actionscript 2

It’s an open source component
Flash Component is supposed to be precompiled with hidden source code. I provide source code in download package

Bloody hell that’s amazing! What a great original idea.
How many of the images load on start up?
Posted 4 months ago
@philco: There is only one first image is loaded at start up then you can start to navigate by turn on thumbnail board. If there is a grayscale thumbnail then its full version hasn’t been loaded, colorful thumbnail mean the corresponding image is loaded completely.

Why is it that once you start moving horizontally you cannot move vertically on the thumbnail matrix ?
But for the rest it is a fantastic idea!
Cheers Henri

@diamonds: that is one direction mode, the thing is if you want to move vertically while moving horizontally you have to adjust the pointer to exactly match a thumbnail position. I figure it’s just not easier than release/hold again to set up a new direction

very cool experience browsing through the images
- First image should fade In smoother
- You should make an intro to show how to view the images
Anyway, nice job !

cool but it seems like the thumbnails should center when activated. otherwise if you click near the edge of the window they are clipped and you cannot reach some of them.

also price seems a little steep given how many photo galleries are available here!

@SimpleJim: thumbnails are placed based on mouse position, so if you move mouse near the edge I have to find someway around to move it to center ? Not very elegant. In addition you don’t have any business with the edge of window do you ?

Rim I think this is fantastic but I have a couple of questions. Regarding the image loading. When you say that one image loads at start do you mean a hugh image with all the smaller images on it. So in other words we are panning around one big image?
I ask because all the images seem to be “there” on the page and when you select one via a thumb there is no load time.
The other question is regarding size. If you view this in 1024×768 (standard small screen size) the images are of course to big to fit the screen. Would it be possible to do that thing where the photos resize automatically to the size of the window….........with bit map smoothing and all that.
I would imagine that if this is loading one big file with all the photos on it then that would not be possible.

@philco: thanks for the observation however there is not a very big image which contains all smaller image inside. All images are separated in different movie clip and the loading process occurs in run-time. Every image is resize to fit browser dimenson and ofcourse bitmap smoothing applied.
The process is starting by loading all thumbnails at first then the gallery loads the very first image (the top left in thumbnail board) to enable navigation. Once that image has beed loaded you can activate thumbnail board. All other images are still be loaded while moving around. Again grayscale thumbnail mean the corresponding image not loaded, colofull means loaded completely.
If you haven’t seen any grayscale thumbnail chance is you have a fast internet connection.

on a smaller screen (even the VERY common 1024×76
, if I am currently viewing the top/left image and I happen to click in the lower/right, most of the menu is clipped. likewise if I am currently viewing the lower/right image and I click in the top/left, most of the menu is clipped. in fact, at this common screen setting (1024), even if I click in the dead center, a portion of the menu is clipped.
users won’t know where to click to make the menu display properly until they do some trial and error.

Oh well it doesn’t happen to my testing 1024×768 monitor.
Anyway I won’t open any other argurment since this is how the file is built, thumbnail position is placed on mouse position, if you click at the edge window then it’s kinda strange to let the thumbnail appear at center, what can you drag if it appears like that ? Or if you know a method to move mouse position to center ? I don’t think to release/ hold navigate around could cause someone so much trouble once they can completely control thumbnail board by just lifting their mouse a little bit ?
Thanks

try the 3×9 version on your 1024×768 and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I agree you cannot solve this problem if the mousebutton must stay down. moving the cursor, even if possible, would be bad UI design.
if it were me, I’d have the menu come up in the center and stay there until they click their selection. that way you can control where it displays and make sure when it appears it is completely visible.

thanks, I’ve seen this file before but didn’t like it very much because it has to load all the images in the beginning. and I was thinking that your file is closer to the example that I gave. if you do a file like that please let me know, I want to be the first buyer.

Hello, I bought this component and I’m have EXTREME trouble developing a “catalouge” feature. I want to display images from various categories and do something along those lines.
The way you developed the component makes it virtually impossible to call up other xml files on a conditional basis.
PLEASE HELP ! I’m literally begging you.
