Horizontal Scroller Slideshow

The Horizontal Scroller Slideshow displays multiple images(jpg, png, gif or swf ) that can be scrolled automatically or via a scrollbar. When scrolled manually, the scroller auto-snaps to the closest image. Each image has a link that opens when you click on it. Images and links are configured through an XML file.

Use it to show featured products on your homepage, or showcase your latest projects, or as the navigation to different sections of your website, etc!

Features:

Resizable (auto-sizes to the size you specify)
Have multiple items per screen or just one.
Auto scroll (optional) with adjustable scroll speed, and pause time
Auto snap (optional) to the closest image when scrolling. You can adjust the snapping speed.
Blur when scrolling (optional) with adjustable blur amount
Scrollbar (optional)
Easing. You choose your easing type: Back, Bounce, Elastic, Regular, Strong, None
Set a link for each image. Links can open in current window or a new window
Displays jpg, gif, transparent png or swfs with animation. They are centred and displayed at their original size.
Use flashVars to specifiy the xml location so you can have multiple instances on the one page with different configurations
No need to open the flash file. Everything is configured via XML .

Very nice scroller, very versatile !

I’ve got a question : is it possible to add a “auto-replay” feature ? I’m using it without slider, and when the last image is shown, it stops, and i’m wondering how to restart the scrolling from start…

pimafonk, That is strange.. it should automatically go back to the beginning once it reaches the end. Can you show me your file so I can see what the problem is?

I’m sorry it’s not possible to randomise the order of the images.

I am importing this into a another full screen flash website, but when I import it, the scroller resize and take the hole screen.

I want it to be in the center and the size that I want, not the hole screen.

Please Help

JavierDesigns, open the flash file and a few lines into the ationscript you’ll find the following script:

movieClipWidth = Stage.width; movieClipHeight = Stage.height;

Just replace Stage.width and Stage.height with the width ad height in pixels that you want it to be.

same question as above, if you have small images to eliminate the top and bottom white space. But before that question, because i didn’t even get into the file, version 8 .fla supplied doesn’t open, it says unexpected file format. I’m gonna try to open the other one with cs3, but i don’t have it on this computer i only have 8 here. Can you shed some light on that? maybe resend me the v8 version?

JavierDesigns, I’m not sure what you mean, you would need to show me an example so I can see what the problem is. Maybe you just need to set the movieClipHeight to less?

gpasat, I’m not sure what you mean about the top and bottom white space. The amount of space will depend on the height you set. I’m sorry that you are unable to open the file, I have resaved the version 8 file and will upload it here shortly, so hopefully within the next few days you will be able to redownload the files from here. I would email it to you, but I don’t have your email address and I am going on holidays tomorrow.

ckani, I don’t know about swishmax. If you want to put it into another movie, just copy all the files from the library of my flash file into yours and drag the scrollerSlideshow movieclip onto the stage.

I purchased your vertical scroller and was very happy with the results but the final job called for a horizontal scroller. I know your on holiday and I’m on deadline so I will purchase this version as well. Maybe when you return we could work something out with another project

Ok, I suppose you did, as when I downloaded it it worked. I have another question though..

I place the scroller inside a flash file, then I load the flash file from another file and it loads, but when I want to change to another scroller within the flash file, it just reloads the first scroller.

Basically, I have Editorial, Fashion, Food as my headings, I then click editorial and it loads an external swf file with your scroller in it. But when I click on fashion it just reloads the editorial (or what ever is on the screen). I know it’s not my parent flash file, as I take out the scrollers and it goes back to working normally.

So is there anything I need to do to edit the file to make it work?

Hi Nellie, I can’t seem to get the scrollbar to sit on the web pages backlground like in the sample you have. It keeps showing up with a whiate background. I want the images to be white and the scrollbar to be on top of the browser page color. Thanks.

Won’t work under ie with swobject Flash scripting !!!

After getting fast and efficient support from Gilbert (my xml path has a question mark ? so i had to replace the question mark by a & in the source file, at the end of the actionscript where it deals with adding a random value to avoid caching the xml), i found out another problem with this Flash :

Although it works great under most respectable browsers FF, Google Chrome, both Mac and PC, safari, it will only load once under bloody ie (ie6 or ie7) when the flash is embedded with swfobject technique : as soon as you refresh the page, the Flash is broken (no thumbnail will show)

please see an example here, the (buggy) Flash on the left is using swfobject 2, and the (good) right hand side Flash is using the RunActiveContent technique :

I just bought this application – when I try to open any of the SWFs or even publish my own FLAs, I get an error saying “Cannot open a protected movie.”

What gives?

Is there any way the code could be changed to allow the user to just put their mouse over the movie and it scroll left or right? For example, my client wants to be able to put their mouse on the far right icon, and then the movie scrolls left. If they put their mouse on the far left icon, the movie scrolls right. In other words, use the mouse to control the movement, not the scrollbar.

If this is an easy fix please let me know – I need this figured out asap.

i want to import it to an existing flash project and use the menu to control secondary content, like gotoAndPlay (variable from XML )???

Cressa, You just need to find the script that says:

item_mc.onRelease = function() { getURL(this.link, urlTarget); };

and replace it with:

item_mc.onRelease = function() { _root.gotoAndPlay(this.link); };

You should be able to find this in the actionscript on around line 239

Then in the xml file instead of the url just put in the frame number.

I have encountered a few issues;

1. when the movieclip reaches the end, it bounces and does not loop /replay.

2. is there a way to work with different image sizes?

3. I will need the movie to be 900 pixels wide
