Light - Image Folio v.2

OXYLUS

The new Image Folio has support for an unlimited numbers of images. Images can have different sizes and you can chose between 4 ways of resizing/fitting the image inside the rectangular shape. It is xml driven, the xml file allows you to add a title and a data field for each image. Image formats supported are: png, jpg, gif. Easily add any script you want for handling click actions on the images, with the possibility of identifying the images by their “data” attribute which was previously set in the xml file. The rectangular shape that you see on the stage it is the place holder for the image folio and at runtime it will act as a mask and it will also define the area in which the images will be center aligned. Resize this shape and also tweak the “w” and “h” variables inside Image.as file to obtain the desired result. Also settable in the Image.as file are: the border width, corner radius, label distance from the bottom edge of the image and also the shadow distance from the same edge. The 4 scale modes are (similar as the ones used for the Stage.scaleMode property): showAll, exactFit, noBorder, noScale. In each situation the image will be center aligned. You can set the scaleMode inside the Image.as file. By default it is set to showAll. You should also check out the variables inside Folio.as file. Each one of them has a comment. Tweaking these variables can help you achieve different results. Customizing the appearance of the Folio is easy. You have to edit the Library symbols which are grouped in suggestively named folders.

Actually version 2 can do more. You have the handler function in the first frame of your main fla. You have to change it to:

Image.clickHandler = function(dat){ getURL(dat); }

Remmember to set the url in the xml file, assigning it to the “data” attribute.

Hi OXYLUS .

This looks amazing, but unfortunately I cannot seem to get it to work on my site.

You will have to pardon my naivety when it comes to slightly more advanced flash files…

Could you take me through the steps to get this working (I am using dreamweaver).

This seems to have many files included within the various folders do I need to upload them all? How does the hierarchy work. ie do I need every file to be in the public_html folder? Please pardon my ignorance!

I would really appreciate this info as I am sure would many others. (plus I want to rate this high!!!)

@ADH, Those are source files. You don’t need to upload them. You need to upload the generated swf file located in the test folder and embed it in you site.

Additionally: You should upload the swf file and the xml file on your server (both are now located in the test folder). The images can be stored anywhere aslong as they remain on the same domain. You’ll have to edit the xml file with the paths to those images. Embeding the swf is easy. Simply do a search on the web for swfobject. You’ll find the source script and a very good documetation in how to use it, all for free.

Another question (I’m sorry!!).

I want to remove the ‘clicked item data’ text, fro the top of the swf, but if I try to delete it off of the stage and then publish, It comes out a mess? As a a matter of fact, I cannot seem to edit from the stage at all… I have even tried opening your original file, publishing it as ‘main’ and it still comes out a mess?

What am I doing wrong? I am probably making school boy errors, but I have been able to manipulate flash files in the past and publish with no adverse affects?

I genuinely appreciate your time on this.

Very very pretty! I can really make use of this lovely file but i have some questions: Q1) Can i change the size and shape of the centre image? Q2) Can i change the size and shape of the side images? Q3) Can i remove the background? Q4) Can you tell me how to do all those things?

@ADH The layers have very specific names. You should delete the layers you don’t need. You should read the description. It is explained there how you can resize it.

@dj_bobalicious I will try to implement that feature in a future version. Curently it cannot work that way.

@atroa Those things are very easy to setup with a little Flash knowledge

Oxylus, I can change the size of the images (centre and side) by editing image.as line 62 & 63, however they change in proportion to one another. How can i change them independently?

I tried to drag n’ drop this component into a new flash project, but I seem to be getting an error stating:

Error Symbol=Preloader, layer=Graphics, frame=1:Line 1: The class or interface ‘oxylus.Preloader’ could not be loaded.

Error Symbol=Folio, layer=Mask, frame=1:Line 1: The class or interface ‘oxylus.folio.Folio’ could not be loaded.

Error Symbol=Image, layer=Border, frame=1:Line 1: The class or interface ‘oxylus.folio.Image’ could not be loaded.

Total ActionScript Errors: 3 Reported Errors: 3
