what if you changed your message often and don’t want to pull your .fla offline to edit it, publish it and re-upload it… I would use xml for that.

Yeah, that ?orrectly. You don’t have to upload you swf again. You can change your message for users via xml file. 
Why this is need?
While your site is preloading the user can read a greeting. 
Nice idea!
Keep try to make image autoslide with caption while site loading…
That will be much money maker i think!

I like the idea, but doesnt XML take some time to load? Purpose of a preloader is to load “instantly”, to show that the rest of the page is loading. But if the preloader takes time to load, wouldnt that take away a part of its purpose?

but as you can imagine, for a site with megs of size, it would not be a big deal to load 2-3 kbs of text…
i prefer waiting 42 seconds of waiting instead of waiting 40 seconds without seeing anything else but percent loaded…
How would you go about having this preloader work with a slideshow that also works with an xml file and is not necessarily a movieclip?
