USA XML Map Version 2.1 XML driven map of the United States, each states information is powered by an external XML file for easy content editing and map colors are defined by simple variables.

Updates! July 21st ‘08

  • Easy customization through color variables. Change map color, rollover color, state abbreviation and capital city names and map/state outlines.
  • Improved scrolling functions, scroll bars are hidden unless the content overflows the textarea.
  • XML content is formatted with HTML , add links, images, text formatting to any text area through the XML files as you would to any HTML document.
  • State and territory flags have been added to the xml.
  • Tool tip state names are editable through the Actionscript.
  • State capitals have been added, can be easily removed.
  • State abbreviations added for easier navigation, also can be easily removed from map.
  • External buttons and pointers for smaller states.
  • Other US territories added, DC, Guam, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico.
  • Demo preloader added.

Hey there is there a way that once the user clicks on the state it stays highlited as active.

I’m looking at updating the STATE images as images of SALES REP that cover that area. Is that something that is easy to perform?

@estebanangulo – Not currently on this map, but I am working on a version that has this feature.

@jkherman – Yes, the flags in the XML are purely there for example.

Hi, I purchased your map and am very pleased with it so far. I am completely new to flash. I’m a web developer and have just bought flash in order to edit this file. I’ve figured out how to make the changes to the state colors, but I’ve not figured out a few things and was hoping you could help. I’ve numbered my questions below:

1.) I don’t need Guam, VI, or Puerto Rico. How do I remove those from this map? I see how to hide their labels, but I don’t see how to hide their actual borders.

2.) I need to make Alaska smaller and then move it and Hawaii slightly. How do I do that?

3.) This is more of just a comment. I think I can fix this. It looks like Maine’s state abbreviation doesn’t use the color set in Action Script. It stays black.

I’d greatly appreciate any help you could provide on questions 1 and 2 above.

@mmcquade – To delete Guam etc. delete the folder and go into the MC’s on the layers labeled “map background” and “outlines” and remove the relevant.

Same with AK and HI, but resize them.

The MA is working for me, in the fla it’s white but export it goes black, let me know your having any more problems.
